Sculpture
Inspiration for these sculptures was derived from the greater Cityscape, including buildings, public structures and piers. The sculptures contains curves, notches and undulating forms representative of the conflux of marine and land architecture and the machines of daily life. The sculptures are a composite of these common forms. Their contours are accentuated by uniform paint colors. The blue and green paints are reminiscent of the nautical landscape and early 20th Century machinery. The full size sculptures were enlarged from miniature maquets, in many ways paralleling the time consuming and precise mechanical labour which created many of the City’s forms. Viewers might examine these pieces as they would an automobile or a piece of new machinery. It is hoped that the pieces will represent the continuing links among form, labour and the complexities of the constructed environment.
Materials: The sculptures are made with outdoor suitable materials including PVC piping, aluminum and brass sheet metal, coated steel beams, plywood, waterproof resorcinol glue, auto body filler, waterproof polyester resin sealer and marine topside paint.
Assembly and Disassembly: The larger sculpture fully disassembles and has a reassembly manual. The smaller sculpture has a detachable lower section which easily slides into place.
